Gamer

We received a Nintendo Wii a couple years ago as a gift.  Until recently, Jackson has shown no interest in playing it.  Now we have Mario Kart and Jackson is addicted!  He would probably play all day long if we would let him.  It's very common in the evening for Jackson and Karsten to play "mario" until bedtime.  And don't even think about bothering Jackson during this time, he's concentrating...

He's getting pretty good too!

Blooming

Last fall I had a post about receiving some daffodil bulbs from a good friend.  We planted them last fall and have been patiently waiting all winter for them to bloom.  Due to our early warm weather, they are up!
This is last November when we planted them.
This is early March, just coming up.
Above and below pics were taken March 21st.
Pretty daffodil blooms!

This has been really fun to watch with Jackson.  He has been checking them everyday and keeping everyone updated on their progress.  Thanks again Debby for the bulbs!!

First ER

We had our very first ER visit tonight.  I've always thought that Tristan would be the first to need an ER visit and I was right.  We had been working around the house this evening and, like we always do, left the basement door open.  The boys usually divide their time between playing in the sandbox and the basement while Karsten and I are nearby working on stuff.  Jackson was playing with his train table in the basement and Karsten and I were upstairs in the kitchen at that particular moment.

Tristan came into the basement and up the stairs just screaming.  We didn't think any of it really until we saw the blood on the back of his head and shirt.  He likely fell into the concrete blocks that line our basement entrance.  Now I do NOT usually get too worked up about my children falling or even bleeding.  Kids fall and heads bleed, he was crying which means he was acting appropriately for his age and situation.  After cleaning him up a bit we found about a 1/2 inch gaping laceration on the back of his head.

I really debated on whether or not we needed to go to ER.  So I followed my own advice, which is:  If you are debating that much on whether or not your child needs to be seen, you should take them in to be seen.  The only part that bothered me was the gaping part.  So I gave Tristan his ice pack, called the hospital and off we went.  This is what he looked like after we got home:
I was very glad when Dr. Zichal suggested using dermabond (superglue).  So he got a quick shave and glue applied.  He did so good!  Such a brave little boy!
He also got a blanket!  A local church makes these and donates them to the hospital for us to hand out to kids.

So here ends our first ER experience.  I have a feeling it won't be our last....

Karsten's Birthday

Today is Karsten's birthday!  He turns 33.  I had to work today so we celebrated last night.  I was hoping to make steaks on the grill but it was too windy.  So instead, I made them inside as well as potatoes and veggies.  I let the boys pick out their own gifts this year.  Jackson decided that his dad needed a calculator and Tristan picked out a lollipop.  They also signed a card and helped decorate the cake.
This is what waited for Daddy when he got home.  Jackson didn't think he could write "Daddy" on the card so I dotted it out and he traced it.
The boys "patiently" waiting for Daddy to get home so we could celebrate!
Karsten was very grateful for his handpicked birthday presents.
Birthday boy blowing out his candles, Tristan wanted to help too!

I think Karsten had a pretty good birthday.  We had a very nice meal followed by some delicious birthday cake.  He is planning on going to the Sports Show at the UNI Dome on Saturday with some friends.  He also got some cash from his aunt and Mom and a new mailbox from my parents.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KARSTEN!!!!
