Dedication

The Froelich Foundation had always been a big part of my grandparents' lives.  They were very much involved with all things Froelich.  This weekend was the Fall-der-all, Froelich's annual celebration.  I remember going to this when I was little.  And today there was a small dedication for Grandpa.  They had purchased a bench along with a plaque using memorial money.  It sits right next to Grandma's memorial garden.
 The bench is very appropriate.

Foels boys trying out the bench.

It was a very nice dedication.  The Froelich Foundation director said some very nice words about Grandpa. It's very comforting for our family to know that he is being remembered.  It is also very comforting to go visit Froelich and see the memorials.

Checked off the list

I have always wanted to grow my hair out and donate it.  It's just one of those things I've always wanted to do.  I've tried in the past but could never stick with it.  I finally did it!  I started May 2011, got one little trim last November but otherwise did not cut my hair.

Before...

After...

TA DA!

I absolutely love it!  LOVE IT!!  It actually drove me crazy to have long hair, but I did it!  I ended up donating to an organization I found online called Children With Hairloss.  You can get to their website here.  They only required 8 inches of hair, which is about exactly what I had.  I guess I can check this off my list now.  I don't know if I'll ever be able to do it again but at least I can say I did it once.

P.S.  Thanks so much to Kristin Miller at Aquarius Salon for the awesome cut and color.

Slow but steady...

We have been (im)patiently waiting for the carpenters to arrive at the farmhouse.  They have been very busy with other projects and told us it would be after October 1st.  This was a bit disappointing but, on the other hand, it means people are doing construction projects and that is good.  Not that there isn't plenty of other things for us to do.  Karsten has been very busy out there putting up headers to open up rooms, framing windows, tearing the rest of the old siding off and just other little projects that need to be done.  We have ordered all our new windows (geesh!) and doors as well as new siding.  We have decided to eliminate quite a few windows and are continuing to figure out new rooms and designs.  I haven't taken many pictures lately since there hasn't been any "big" changes but decided to head out today and just snap a few of the little things.
This is the new header looking into the new kitchen (old living room).
And this is the massive header between the dining room and living room (old kitchen).  I'm really excited for this one, it opens up these two rooms a lot.  The old built-in is still there, you can just barely see it on the right.  So far so good on keeping that.

These next two didn't turn out very well but I think you can get the idea.  I guess it was just too bright on the other side of the tyvek paper.
This is the new dining room picture window.  It's huge and I love it!  The 2x4s in the middle of the room were just for temporary support for when Karsten put in the framing on the window.  They won't stay.
These are the two newly framed windows in the largest upstairs bedroom.  They look to the south.

As for the outside of the house, it's hardly recognizable.
South side of the house.  You can sort of see where the large picture window will be.  There will be a formal entrance on the left side where that window was.
East side or the side that faces the road.  The two windows above the porch will be eliminated.  The blue tarp is covering some windows that will stay.  The door on the porch will be moved to the right (going into the kitchen instead) and we are going to replace the two windows looking out onto the porch.  To me, it still looks strange without the giant tree.
The cement is still waiting for the carpenters to come.  Imagine a two car garage with a bedroom above.  Please let them come soon!
The outbuildings that have stored all of the "burnable" items during demolition.  Imagine a giant bonfire here at some point!

So as you can see, we have been making slow but steady progress.  As for your other question, no, we have not had any interest in our Farmersburg house since our sale fell through.  Hoping and praying that it will all work out.  I kind of like saying we own two properties but I hope we don't have to say that for a long time.  :)

Big boy bike

We have been talking all summer about getting Jackson a new bike.  He has mastered his three wheeler "Diego" bike and really needed something bigger.  Bike riding has been difficult for him, not sure if it's because he's small or if it's just one of those things.  So the other day, he and I went and picked out his new bike.  We are calling it an early birthday present.
He's doing really good with it too!  Our favorite spot to ride is at the park on the tennis court.

Cozy

During naptime today I went upstairs (very quietly) to do something, peeked into Jackson's room on my way and this is what I saw....
He slept for probably 2 hours like this.  I think he was a bit stiff when he came downstairs...
